Beijing olympics – Just a thought to share

Beijing Olympics 2008 is a great example of good management and planning.  China did not only gain the first position in the medals table but also they doubled their score of medals compared to Athens Olympics 2004.

You cannot reach such a great success without good planning and management.  I am sure that once China knew they were organizing the event in 2008, they started planning not only for organizing the event but also to be the winners of it.  Years of planning, preparation and good management resulted in reaching the ultimate goal.

If they wasted their time fighting over who manages the event or over who does what, they would not have succeeded the way they did.  Also if they had not put a well studied plan and made sure to execute it and stick to it no matter what, they would not have made such a great score of medals.

If we compare their success to what happens in business, when we are managing a project, you will find out that it is exactly the same concept.  If you want to finish your work right, with high quality and on time, then you have to think well, plan well, execute well and manage the execution well.  If you do that, you will be sure to reach your goals to the satisfaction of everyone involved.

It is also a great example of team work. Again a good manager can make a team work in harmony and produce quality results.  On the other hand a bad manager will cause problems and divide his team, which in turn will cause delays and affect the quality of the results.

  1. Ya Doha of course it is impressive what they did, but whenever Bejing Olympics is mentioned I can’t help comment on the amount of money spent in the opening ceremony while people not only around the world but in China itself are starving and dying from poverty and hunger. Chinese people are very poor (with exceptions of course, but I am speaking about the public masses), I would have rather had China do a nice yet modest opening and spent this money on the Chinese people!!

Yes it is impressive what they have reached, but where is the “engaz” in a country getting richer but people getting poorer. The country should be the people and if the wealth is not reaching the people of China, what is the point really?

  2. I totally agree with you May, I just looked at it from a managerial point of view. I wanted to say that nothing is impossible if you plan well and execute your plan. It is all about planning and management.

But of course when we look at it from your point of view, yes of course there is no point in starving the people to organize such a huge event.

  3. Beijing Olympics 2008 is (was) the great world event which shows and emerges the great success and achievement of its country. As you said,Chinese have not only prepared to be the host, but also prepared to be the winners.Of course,to be able to reach and gain what the Chinese people has dreamt and expected, there is huge and even abundant financial, mental and physical efforts have been contributed and committed. This precious and valueless accomplishment is not able to be described and represented with several words.Meanwhile, this event also shows how fast and strong the Chinese econmic’s status is.It is doubtless to say that Chinese economy has strided a huge step in the developing progress. However,my little question is that do they need to spend so much money to greet this special event?Have they ever concerned about their economic situation?Their people, especially in the rural and remote areas?Have they known that they have been consuming their people’s money?Wasting their hard toil income?Have they ever asked their opinion? Is it just because of self respect or face saving? Why don’t let the people become wealthy first and then do as other developed countries?

  4. Yes Bun, I totally agree…. If this event has been organized on the expense of the people of China then of course it should not have been done.

If there is no plan to invest the money gained from the event for the benefit of the people then such an event should not have been hosted in the first place.

Also before hosting the event they should have made sure that they will gain much more than what they will spend and have plans to invest their income.
I think we will also agree that they already have gained on both the touristic and political levels.

  5. Thanks Doha for sharing your thoughts with us ,for me Beiging olympics was sooo perfect i was amazed .i just wanna say that the chines people did really a great job , i think all the chines are proud of their country & what they have done . ofcourse now the chines children who participated in the olympics are proud & they can achieve anything in the future cuz as you said for them impossible is nothing.
